WOLVES 50 POOLE 40

Monday March 27, 2017
WOLVERHAMPTON got their season off to an impressive start with a 50-40 win over Poole in the first leg of the Elite Shield.

The meeting was closely contested throughout with hardly anything between the two sides.

But it was the Parrys International Wolves who dug deep to round the night off with three consecutive heat advantages to earn a ten-point lead to take into Wednesday's second leg in Dorset.

Team manager Peter Adams was happy with his side's spirit and was pleased to see them come out on top in the end.

"Poole kept it close all the way through, mainly due to Nicolai (Klindt) being in fantastic form at reserve as we fully expected around Monmore," Adams said.

"But as was key to our success last year, we dug deep and came on particularly strong in the latter stages of the meeting.

"Jacob (Thorssell) was absolutely fantastic from start to finish and Freddie (Lindgren) was his usual self at No.1.

"I thought Kyle (Howarth) was terrific. He's worked and trained extremely hard over the winter and he reaped the rewards in his first meeting for us.

"It took Sam (Masters) a couple of rides to get going, but once he did he rode really well.

"There's certainly still areas where we can improve but these are very early days; overall it was a good start to the season for us.

"The track was beautifully prepared, as ever, and we were all treated to some fantastic racing.

"We're happy with the ten point lead we've earned, but we're going to Poole on Wednesday aiming for the win on the night too."
