WOLVERHAMPTON star Sam Masters is determined to prove he deserves his spot after being handed a late call-up to Australia’s Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup side.

Masters was left out of Mark Lemon’s starting line-up for Event One at King’s Lynn on Saturday, where Great Britain edged them to the top spot.

But Nick Morris has now withdrawn from the side through injury after a nasty crash in the meeting.

Australian Champion Masters admits he is delighted to be given a recall to the side – and he is desperate to show he belongs at the top level.

Said Masters: “There is always going to be a good rider who misses out with the strength in the squad, and this year it was me unfortunately.

“I’m just pleased to get a call-up now for the race-off, although it’s a shame for Nick to miss out and I wish him well.

“Hopefully I can come in and help us get through to the final, then we’ll see what happens there. It’s going to be a tough one, but if we all chip in then we’re capable of making it.

“Personally I’ll be trying to prove I deserve to be there and do everything I can to help us get the job done.”

Masters will be back in action for Wolverhampton as they host Rye House next Monday (7.30), with reduced admission prices of just £10 for adults and £1 for kids.
